Challenge

After speaking to a dear friend last night I feel more motivated then ever. Great things are to come in January. I want to help as many people as possible and help grow awareness for the troops so that we can give them and their families as much support as possible. My friend challenged others and it was a great idea. She challenged everyone to buy one extra item this holiday season. Whether it is a food item for the local food pantry or a toy for toys for tots. We should try to donate something this holiday season to those that are in need. Send a card to solider or a neighbor that does not have family near them. Try to do something for another person.

vacation

I have been away for a family vacation, but I am back. It was the best vacation, we went to Disney World. It truly is a magical place. I felt different there, that my dreams and wishes could come true.

I made some great observations though while on vacation.

Us Airways is a big supporter of military families. They participate in a program called Honor Flights. They fly American Heroes, Veterans, to Washington DC for free to see their memorials. They also offer discounts to military families.

We also went to Sea World while on vacation. My kids loved the Shamu show. I was very impressed with Sea World though. Before the show started they announced that all Veterans and active Military stand up. They applauded and thanked the military personnel for their freedom to be there doing what they love to do. They showed the crowd of people standing on the  big screen. More places should do this, we would not be free if it was not for the military personnel and their families.

Now that I am back from vacation in the best place in the world I will be focused on this mission. I have some great things coming and will be needing everyone's help.

Wounded Warrior Project still has coupons. Go to their website and print out the coupons. Click on the savings cube and print your coupons. Show your support for the Wounded Heroes and save money in the process. I am not sure how long these will be up so get them now.

While you are there check out their website and read about the organization and how great it is.

coupon critics

I read something on a local news facebook page that made me think. The story on facebook was about the local news station sharing tips about couponing. Most of the comments were negative. I was curious as to why most people have a negative view of couponing. I know that there are people out there that coupon and then hoard items or buy just to buy because it is free, but there are so many people that are putting couponing to good use and we need to recognize them and support them. This just  motivated me to get out out there and teach people that you can coupon and help others. Teaching or motivating others to help military  families and food pantries are important and I hope that I can be a small part of showing haters that us couponers are trying to do good and it can be easy to help others with something as little aas couponing. Check out my friend Maureen she is using coupons to help others as well.  Save and Share with Coupons

Veteran's Day

Today is Veteran's Day. Today, and every day, we need to remember our men and women in the armed forces, as well as their families, that sacrifice and have sacrificed for us to be free. I am so proud that I can say I have many Veteran's in my family. Some have even paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. So hug a Veteran today and show your appreciation.

This is a poem written for kids, but I think it says everything.

The Pride of Our Country

Today as before, our brave do fight
For a land they love, a flag so right
The pride of our country, yes they are
The strength of our nation, best by far
Just as our brave from each war gone by
They march for us proudly, flag held high
From all over this land they come to serve
They’re taught by the best, this they deserve
When troops give their all, the world does see
Whether serving on land, in the air, or at sea
The pride from this country, march through war
With home drawn strength, held deep in their core
Our best are so awesome, their loved ones well know
May God guide their journey where they - for us - go
What these brave must have is support from their own
The love from their people, firm thankfulness shown
Our greatest achievement is that we’re still free
Please take time and ponder who caused this to be

Marines

Today is the 236th birthday of the Marines. It is important to thank a Marine today, and every day. So many have sacrificed. Thank a Marines family as well. They make just as big a sacrifice for our country.

candy

I will be collecting all Halloween candy and sending to the troops overseas. My kids love to do this. They pick out a good bit of their candy and then help me box it up and they write a nice little note. It is good for them to help others, it makes them feel good. It is also a great way to talk to your kids about the troops overseas. It helps them to appreciate what they have. Contact me if you want to donate candy.

the troops

I have been coming up with new ideas and hopefully I will be able to put my ideas in motion soon. I have been having a bad week, but God reminds me that with his help I will get through it. Meeting up with Maureen from saveandsharewithcoupons.com tomorrow, that always makes me happy!! We will be brainstorming about some of the ideas. More good things to come!

coupon exchange

Tomorrow is our monthly coupon exchange at The Winery at Wilcox in Settlers Ridge. I look forward to this all month. It is fun to get together with other women that share the same thoughts towards saving money and giving back. Tomorrow is an extra special coupon exchange because we are also participating in Operation Christmas Cards. We are going to be making Christmas cards for the troops. Thanks to my friend Rose who is helping us do this. She has been such a big supporter of the coupon exchange and of sending expired and unwanted coupons to the military. She is also a wonderful person! I am excited because I am going to get  my kids involved. Both of my kids want to make cards as well. I feel that it is important to teach kids the importance of the military and the sacrifices that the families make.

weather wonderful weekend

This weekend is going to be beautiful. I can't wait to play outside with my kids. This morning though I sit and think about those serving overseas and how their weather is and I really appreciate how good we have it and how much they sacrifice.

God Bless

I am so excited to be able to start this blog and share with everyone the good things that God is doing through coupons. My name is Carra. I live in Pittsburgh. I started couponing when I quit my job to stay home with my kids. Along the way I have met some amazing people that have changed my life. I have always felt that I need to give back or help others, I was a social worker by trade so it was always in my nature. Coupons have given me that opportunity. I also have a strong pride and respect for our country and the people that serve and protect us. I feel that we need to do as much as we can to support our  military local and abroad. Sometimes I feel that families that are abroad get forgotten and they are key to our military functions. What better to to help those overseas families then to send them expired and unwanted coupons. It is a small gesture, but an easy one. I was just throwing them away and I thought there has to be something that I can do with them, it was such a waste. I researched and found an organization that would allow adopting of a military base. So I adopted a base in Germany. I am fortunate to have so much support through family and friends as well as through a local coupon exchange at The Winery at Wilcox. They have great wine, but are also very military minded. I could not have started any of this though without the help of one wonderful and inspiring woman, Maureen. Without her I would not have had the encouragement to take God's vision and put it to work. Check her out at www.saveandsharewithcoupons.com. I feel that God is working through me and I obey.
